The Aladdin Sane

The Shooki Review
Visited June 2026
Finally, Detroit's got a proper nightcap spot to match the sushi next door.
The cocktail lounge is its own little world. Cozy, moody, warm vinyl in the background, strong drinks, and service that knows what it's doing.
Tucked into the Book Tower alongside Hiroki-San, the location is killer — wander in after dinner for a cocktail without ever stepping outside. In Detroit winter, that's not a detail. That's survival.
Now, the restrooms.
The cocktail lounge shares its restroom area with the restaurant next door, which usually screams capacity issue. But not here.
They're loaded with private stalls, so they actually handle the traffic well. It is a bit of a walk to get there, so accessibility isn't perfect, but they do have a larger accessible restroom toward the back, which is a strong plus. ♿️
They were clean, all-gender, European-style, and well stocked with nice paper towels, artisanal hand soap, and a diffuser that honestly added to the whole experience.
Strong cocktails and a restroom setup that can handle the night — The Aladdin Sane lands at a 9/10. Start the night with dinner at Hiroki-San right next door before you head over.
See where The Aladdin Sane ranks among Detroit's top cocktail bars.

Reviewers call The Aladdin Sane one of downtown Detroit's best-kept finds — a 32-seat whiskey lounge beneath the Book Tower with a collection of rare spirits, including bottles unavailable anywhere else in Michigan. The moody, intimate room and meticulous cocktail service draw comparisons to a proper speakeasy, and its shared building with Hiroki-San makes it an easy add-on after dinner.
