Privacy Policy

1. Scope and eligibility

This policy applies when you use a Shooki mobile app, visit shooki.co or shooki.app, or interact with a Shooki-owned service or communication.

2. Information we collect

Account and profile information

We may collect your email address, authentication credentials managed by our authentication provider, username, phone number, account identifiers, profile photo, and gender selection. Social sign-in providers may also send us identifiers and profile information you authorize them to share.

Location and search information

If you enable location permission, the app processes and may send your precise or approximate device location to show nearby restrooms, calculate distance, search around the map, and provide directions. Mapping and place-search providers may process search text and nearby coordinates. On iOS, if you separately opt in to review reminders, Shooki may request "Always" location access and monitor regions around nearby listed places so it can remind you when the app is closed. You can turn review reminders off in Shooki and revoke location access in device settings.

Coarse signup location

When you create an account, Shooki uses the IP address associated with the authenticated signup request to estimate your city, region, and country. We store this coarse signup location with your account so authorized administrators can understand where new members are joining and improve community coverage, outreach, onboarding, and the service. We do not retain the raw signup IP address or precise coordinates in our application database for this feature. An IP-geolocation service provider may process the request IP. Estimates can be inaccurate because of VPNs, mobile networks, or privacy relays. This signup estimate does not use device GPS and does not require location permission.

Contact sync information

If you separately opt in to Sync Contacts and grant permission, the app reads phone numbers and email addresses from the contacts you allow. Phone numbers are normalized to digits and emails are lowercased, then sent to Shooki's backend for account matching; they are not hashed on-device. Contact names and full address-book records are not sent for matching. Android stores matched Shooki user summaries locally but does not persist the raw address-book identifiers. We do not market to your contacts.

User content and activity

We collect ratings, restroom attributes, text reviews, photos, comments, likes, follows, reports, saved places, and other content or actions you submit. Public profile fields and approved content may be visible to other users and potentially to anyone using Shooki.

Device, notification, and website information

Shooki and its service providers may process device model, operating-system version, IP address, device or push identifiers, app and notification interactions, diagnostics, and approximate location derived from IP. If notifications are enabled, our push provider processes a subscription identifier, device token, Shooki user identifier, and notification interactions. On our websites, Google Analytics may process cookies, browser and device information, IP-derived location, and page interactions.

3. How we use information

• Provide accounts, restroom listings, maps, filters, search, scoring, and directions.
• Publish the content you choose to share and support social features.
• Deliver account, social, and moderation email or push notifications.
• Moderate content, investigate reports, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
• Understand where members are joining, analyze service usage, improve coverage and onboarding, debug issues, improve stability, and comply with law.

4. Sharing and advertising

We do not sell personal data and do not currently use it for cross-app targeted advertising. We share information with service providers that help operate Shooki, including cloud hosting and authentication, storage, email, push notification, analytics, IP geolocation, mapping, place-search, and moderation providers. We also share public content with other users and may disclose information for legal or safety reasons, to enforce our Terms, or as part of a business transaction.

5. Retention and account deletion

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide Shooki, protect users, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, and comply with law. Service providers may retain request, security, notification, and analytics records under their own retention controls.

A stored coarse signup city, region, and country remains linked to your account until account deletion; de-identified aggregate statistics may remain.

When you delete your account, Shooki removes your sign-in identity, scrubs personal fields from the public profile, removes follow relationships, deletes the linked coarse signup location, and deletes the private self-deletion profile backup. Public reviews, ratings, comments, and contributed photos may remain under an anonymized account so community information remains useful. Content may be removed sooner through moderation or a valid deletion request. Information may be retained longer when required for fraud prevention, safety, legal compliance, or a legal hold.

6. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network transport and access controls. No system is perfectly secure.

7. Your choices and rights

You can update certain profile information in the app, turn off review reminders, revoke location, contacts, camera, or notification permission in device settings, and delete your account. Device location permission does not control the coarse signup estimate because that estimate comes from the signup request IP rather than GPS. To delete on Android, open the menu, open your profile, tap Edit Profile, then tap Delete Profile and confirm. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights such as access, deletion, correction, portability, and objection.

8. Children's privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information without required consent.

9. International transfers

Shooki is based in the United States, and information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards where required by law.

10. Changes and contact
