Located in the heart of Corktown on Michigan and Trumbull lies good ole’ McShane’s

A classic Detroit Irish pub. Maybe a little too classic in some ways.

This is the kind of place you want to love before you even walk in. Corktown. Irish pub. Old Detroit bones. A pint waiting somewhere in the distance.

But coming in from the back, the romance takes a little hit. Cigarette butts outside, patio furniture looking like it’s survived a few too many winters, and floors inside that had that sticky bar feeling we all know a little too well.

And I’ve got to be honest — for an Irish pub in one of Michigan’s most Irish neighborhoods, the Guinness disappointed me.

Bubbles on the head. No real thick pour. No two-part ritual. No proper Guinness glass.

Maybe I’m being picky, but when you’ve got places down the street like Nemo’s, Gaelic League, and Cork & Gabel putting more care into the pint, I expected a little more.

But that’s not really why I’m here.

I’m here for the restrooms.

From what I saw, they have two private unisex restrooms. For a place this size, that already feels like a capacity issue. They are close to the back entrance, which helps from an accessibility standpoint. ♿️

They also had baby changing stations, which is definitely worth calling out. 🚼

But overall, the restrooms didn’t really land for me. Sticky floors, a rough toilet area, no paper towels, and just a general feeling that things needed a little more attention.

Maybe it was the night. Maybe it was the lighting. Maybe it was the walk back there. Either way, I wasn’t feeling it.

Respect for the hospitality, but restroom-wise, McShane’s lands at a 5/10.
