Sunda New Asian

Sunda sits right in the thick of it.

Downtown Detroit. The District. Game-day traffic. Concert traffic. People looking for dinner before the night turns into whatever it’s going to turn into.

So let’s get this out of the way first: parking can be brutal. Expensive, annoying, and on a game day, potentially a full-contact sport. They do offer discounted valet, which might be the move if you’re not trying to circle the block like a maniac.

Once inside, though, Sunda has something.

The place looks good. Multiple dining rooms, strong decor, good lighting, and a bar that actually feels approachable. I always appreciate a restaurant that gives you the B option — walk in, grab a seat at the bar, order a couple apps and drinks, and still feel like you got the experience without committing to the full table situation.

The vibe is polished without feeling too stiff. A little downtown, a little date night, a little “let’s see where the night goes.”

Now, the restrooms.

They have two private unisex restrooms located just to the left when you walk in. And I’ve got to say, they were strong.

Clean. Smelled great. Artisan-style hand soap. Brand-new baby changing stations I haven’t really seen before. And accessible, which is always a major plus. ♿️

The only thing holding the score back is capacity.

This place can hold a crowd, and with the location, it’s going to get slammed on game days, concert nights, and busy weekends. Two restrooms might be fine on a normal night, but when downtown Detroit is moving, that could become a problem fast.

Outside of that, Sunda did a great job.

Clean, thoughtful, accessible, and well put together.
