Nancy Whiskey

Nancy Whiskey is one of those Detroit bars that feels like it was poured straight out of the floorboards.

Located just north of Corktown, Nancy Whiskey has history in the walls, behind the bar, and probably buried somewhere in the stories people are still telling over cheap beer and whiskey.

Some say Jimmy Hoffa used to come in here and take calls from the phone booth that still stands today. True? Maybe. Maybe not. But in a place like this, the rumor is half the charm.

Police memorabilia. Firefighter gear. Detroit sports relics. Old wood. Old stories. That true neighborhood bar feeling that doesn’t need a designer, a mood board, or a $19 cocktail to explain itself.

They’ve got live music, and when that’s not happening, TouchTunes is ready to either save the room or start a fight, depending on who gets control. 🎶🎸

Now, I do have one Corktown pub complaint that keeps following me around.

The Guinness.

For a place with Irish bones, I wanted a better pint. No two-part pour, bubbles on the head, and no proper Guinness glass. Maybe I’m being dramatic, but bad Guinness makes my skin crawl a little. 😞

But that’s not why we’re here.

We’re here for the restrooms.

They have two restrooms — male and female. I reviewed the men’s.

It’s mostly what you’d expect from an old Irish pub. Bare minimum amenities, not exactly sparkling, but spacious enough to get the job done.

Because it’s a historic building, accessibility is unfortunately an issue. 🚫♿️

That said, I’ll give credit where it’s due: compared to a lot of other Corktown-area pub restrooms, this one was cleaner than expected.

Not fancy. Not polished. Not trying to win any design awards.

But for what it is, a 6/10 feels fair.
