Mexican Village is the elder statesman of Mexicantown — slinging combination plates on Bagley since 1958, which makes it Detroit's oldest Mexican restaurant. The Gutierrez family still runs the place, a Dennis Orlowski mural covers the wall, and by all accounts the spinach enchiladas and fried ice cream are the moves. Regulars talk about coming here for twenty, thirty years, driving in from the suburbs for a fix, and on busy nights the line stretches out the door. One reviewer admitted to sweating whether that line would move fast enough for a needed bathroom stop — it did, and they were fed and out in under an hour. Nearly seven decades of practice will do that.

Now, the restrooms. Nobody's writing love letters here — restrooms barely register in the reviews at all, which usually means they're doing their job without making an impression either way.
