Babo

I’m going to be brutally honest.

Babo is my favorite breakfast spot in Detroit.

Why?

Options.

Real options. Sweet, savory, healthy, “I had too much fun last night and need to rebuild my body from scratch” options. Fresh ingredients, good portions, and a menu that gives you enough range to bring almost anyone here and find them something they’ll actually want to eat.

That gets you into the final round.

But two things really separate Babo from a lot of breakfast spots in the city.

First — real coffee.

Not diner coffee. Not “we’ve got a Keurig hiding in the back” shit. Actual coffee you could grab on its own and still feel like the trip made sense. Huge.

Second — booze.

Cocktails. Beer. And most importantly, champagne. Not Prosecco. Not “sparkling wine.” Actual champagne from Champagne, France. That makes the Mimosa proper 👌🏼

Babo, you won my heart with that one. 👏🏼❤️

Now, the restrooms.

They have two private unisex restrooms located toward the back. Compared to the rest of the place, I wasn’t blown away. The restrooms felt pretty average across the board — decor, cleanliness, privacy, and accessibility.

They do offer baby changing stations, which is a plus, but again when compared to some other nearby spots, they’re still just above average.

But Babo gets packed. Almost every time I’ve been there, the place is moving. So I could see privacy and capacity becoming an issue depending on the day.

Speaking of packed — this is not a “walk in and grab a table” kind of spot. There is always a wait, and honestly, it’s for good reason.

Parking is also rough. Limited street parking, and in the winter, that walk back to your car can feel brutal.

But if you get the reservation, land the parking, crush breakfast, and want the perfect Sunday move — walk it off across the street at the DIA.

That’s Detroit done right.
