Oakland County Boat Club Review & Bathroom Guide

Sylvan Lake, Michigan

Restroom aside, this is one of those places that reminds you why people put up with Michigan winters. Because eventually… summer comes back. If you ever get the invitation, don’t think twice. 6/10.

Restroom aside, this is one of those places that reminds you why people put up with Michigan winters. Because eventually… summer comes back. If you ever get the invitation, don’t think twice. 6/10.

Sometimes you don’t need to drive four hours north to feel like you’ve escaped.

Forty minutes out of Detroit and suddenly you’re sitting on the water, drink in hand, live music playing, boats drifting by, and the sunset doing that cotton-candy thing we’ve all been waiting on since February.

That’s the Oakland County Boat Club.

It’s members only, and judging by the crowds, plenty of people already know the secret. If you’re lucky enough to know a member, do yourself a favor and tag along.

The vibe is exactly what summer in Michigan should feel like.

Good food. Cold drinks. Live music. Great craic. The kind of place where you accidentally stay three hours longer than you planned because nobody’s in a hurry to leave the lake.

They even host Michigan’s bocce tournaments next door, which is worth watching with a drink in your hand. And inside, they’ve managed to keep the old-school character alive. No unnecessary renovations. Just history, a quality shuffleboard table, and a clubhouse that feels like it’s earned every scratch in the wood.

Best for

  • A member invitation to drinks on the water, live music and sunset
  • Old-school clubhouse character and a quality shuffleboard table
  • Good food, cold drinks and great craic

Less ideal for

  • Arriving without a member invitation — it was members only
  • The men’s restroom’s tight space and busy-club capacity

Restroom verdict

I reviewed the men’s. Clean and well maintained, but a tight squeeze. The small room and busy-club capacity concerns land it at 6/10.

Review coverage
I reported one men’s room and one women’s room and reviewed only the men’s. My photos show two urinals, one toilet stall, one basin, soap, paper towels, toilet paper and a grab rail in the men’s room. The capacity concern refers to the men’s room I reviewed; the women’s interior and complete venue inventory were not verified.
Room reviewed

Accessibility status
Unknown · During my visit, the men’s room felt small and raised access concerns. A grab rail was visible, but full routes, measurements and accessibility compliance were not verified.
Why this score
The men’s restroom was clean and well maintained, but it was a tight squeeze. Room size, accessibility concerns and capacity when the club is packed keep it at 6/10.

Now, the restrooms.

One men’s. One women’s.

I reviewed the men’s.

It was clean and well maintained, but it’s a tight squeeze. The room is small enough that accessibility becomes a real issue, and with only one men’s restroom, capacity can become a problem when the club is packed. 🚫♿️
