Ronin Sushi Review & Bathroom Guide
Royal Oak, Michigan
Decent sushi, cheap sake, low lights, and enough energy to make the night feel like it’s actually beginning. A respectable 7/10 Shooki — a bit of a journey to reach, and tight once inside.

Decent sushi, cheap sake, low lights, and enough energy to make the night feel like it’s actually beginning. A respectable 7/10 Shooki — a bit of a journey to reach, and tight once inside.
I’m out in the Oaks of Royal.
And there are only a handful of places out here that consistently get me to stop.
Ronin is one of them.
Right in downtown Royal Oak and basically made for that pre-show ritual before heading over to the music theater.
There’s something about Japanese restaurants that usually gets the atmosphere right.
Lights low. Music going. Plates moving. Sake being poured. Somebody at the next table laughing louder than they planned.
The whole room feels alive.
Maybe everyone’s excited for the show afterward.
Maybe it’s the sushi.
Or maybe it’s because Ronin’s happy hour is absolutely LIT.
I’ve been coming here for years, and if you’re trying to start a proper night without financially ruining tomorrow, this is a damn good option.
$5 sake?
I’m in.
Sushi rolls under $10?
Keep them coming.
You can eat, drink, try a bunch of things, and somehow still have money left for another bad decision later.
Is this going to be the greatest sushi you’ve ever eaten?
Probably not.
But you might end up eating it next to a stranger who becomes your drinking buddy for the rest of the night.
And isn’t that half the point of going out?
Ronin remains one of my favorite Royal Oak stops when I want decent sushi, cheap sake, low lights, and enough energy to make the night feel like it’s actually beginning.
Best for
- A pre-show stop in downtown Royal Oak
- Sushi and sake without financially ruining tomorrow
- A lively room that feels like the night is beginning
Less ideal for
- An easy route to a roomy restroom
- Guaranteed restroom privacy when it’s busy
The Shooki Bathroom Review
First-party restroom record · Source published October 2026
Restroom verdict
A respectable 7/10: relatively clean, decent capacity and a urinal drink ledge, but tight once you’re inside and not exactly guaranteed privacy.
- Restroom inventory
- 1 reviewed area — 1 shared men’s restroom; total venue room count unknown
- Review coverage
- My observations cover the restroom I used; this is not a count of every restroom at the venue.
- Room reviewed
- Men’s restroom from my visit
- Why this score
- It does enough right for a respectable 7/10: relatively clean, decent capacity, basic amenities and a drink ledge. The tight space, route and busy-room privacy keep it from going higher.
- Layout
- Getting to the restroom is a bit of a journey, and there isn’t a ton of room once you arrive.
- Capacity
- Decent capacity from my visit, but busy enough that privacy isn’t exactly guaranteed.
Relatively clean, decent capacity, basic amenities, and a urinal drink ledge — beautiful little touch. Getting to the restroom is a bit of a journey, and once you arrive, there isn’t a ton of room to work with.
Accessibility could be difficult. It’s tight once you’re inside, and busy enough that privacy isn’t exactly guaranteed. Still, it does enough right to land at a respectable 7/10 Shooki.
