The Shooki Review

Visited June 2026

Malted Vinyl is one of those places you’re happy to stumble into when you’re up north and looking for something with a little personality.

Good drinks. Good music. Walls covered in records. The kind of room that makes you want to grab a cocktail, wander around, and pretend you’re just browsing when really you’re judging everyone’s taste in albums.

They’ve got cocktails, wine, beer, and the real reason to show up — the vinyl.

Pick a drink, walk the walls, see what catches your eye. And if you’re brave enough, choose your crowd-pleaser and get in line with the rest of the people hoping their full-album pick doesn’t kill the room.

It’s a cool concept. Honestly, I’m not sure Detroit has anything quite like this. And if it does, somebody needs to tell me, because I’m a sucker for good drinks and good vinyl.

Now, the restroom.

They only have one private unisex bathroom, and that’s where the score takes the hit.

Most of my followers already know the rule by now: one bathroom can only go so far on Shooki. Especially in a place like this, where summer crowds up north can pack a room fast. Capacity matters.

That said, the restroom was relatively accessible and definitely had that photo-worthy, “put it on the gram” kind of look. So there’s some style here. Just not enough stalls.

Cool spot. Great concept. Solid drink-and-music energy. But restroom capacity keeps it at a 5/10.
