Café Zinc Review & Bathroom Guide
Midland, Michigan
Beautiful room. Dinner was solid. The wine list and service didn’t finish the story for me, but Café Zinc was a pleasant surprise. The broken stall lock brings the restroom down to 7/10.

I know what some of you are thinking.
Where the f*ck is Midland?
That’s fine. This is why we do this.
You roll the dice, get off the familiar roads, wander into some Michigan town you haven’t thought about in years, and hope there’s something waiting there worth finding.
Sometimes you miss.
Sometimes you walk into Café Zinc.
First surprise: downtown Midland is actually pretty damn charming. Walkable, restaurants and bars scattered around, people outside, enough going on to make you wonder why nobody told you about it.
Then you walk into Café Zinc.
Beautiful room. Clean lines. Great lighting. Pastries staring back at you. Coffee waiting for later. The whole thing gave me a little Le Suprême Detroit energy — polished, European-ish, and just fancy enough to make you excited about what’s coming next.
Dinner was solid.
But then I opened the wine list.
No French Pinot Noir? No Champagne?
Ouch.
When a room looks this good, I want the wine list to finish the story. Unfortunately, it didn’t for me.
Service was also pretty rough during my visit. I could list every little thing that went wrong, but that’s not really what Shooki is about. Maybe it was an off night. It happens.
Best for
- A polished room with great lighting and European-ish energy
- Dinner in downtown Midland
- A beautifully designed, super clean restroom during my visit
Less ideal for
- The wine list and service during my visit
- A stall door with a working lock during my visit

Restroom verdict
Awesome design. Super clean. A baby changing station. Then I tried to lock the stall door. Broken lock. That one detail brings it down to 7/10.
- Restroom inventory
- 1 reviewed area — 1 shared restroom area (designation unknown); total venue room count unknown
- Review coverage
- One shared interior with one urinal, two basins and one photographed toilet stall, grab bars, soap, paper towels and changing station. Caption private describes stall enclosure; caption reports broken stall lock. No complete venue inventory, full fixture counts beyond the photographed interior or other room conditions were established.
- Room reviewed
- One shared restroom interior from my Café Zinc visit; designation unrecorded
- Accessibility status
- Unknown · Accessible describes my visit; grab bars and changing station are visible, but the full route, measurements and compliance were not verified.
- Why this score
- Beautiful tile, spotless floors and thoughtful amenities during my visit. But if I’m sitting there wondering whether a stranger is about to make an entrance, we’ve lost the plot. The broken stall lock knocks an otherwise excellent restroom down to 7/10.
- Layout
- My review covers the restroom I visited. Complete venue restroom designations and room counts were not recorded.
- Capacity
- Complete room and fixture totals were not recorded during my visit.
Now, the important stuff.
The restroom.
✨ Awesome design ✨ Super clean 🚪 Private stalls ♿️ Accessible 🚼 Baby changing station
This thing was cruising toward a much higher score…
Then I tried to lock the stall door.
Broken lock.
That’s a problem.
You can give me beautiful tile, spotless floors, and thoughtful amenities, but if I’m sitting there wondering whether a stranger is about to make an entrance, we’ve lost the plot.
That one detail knocks an otherwise excellent restroom down to a 7/10.
