The Shooki Review

Visited July 2026

I love Mackinac Island.

In my opinion, it’s the best thing Michigan has to offer. No cars. Horse carriages. Fudge. Views of the Mighty Mac. The Grand Hotel sitting up there like old-money theater. Bars, restaurants, water, history, chaos, tourists, locals, and that strange little island magic you can’t really explain until you’re there.

And after getting packed onto the ferry like a sardine, there’s only one thing on my mind.

A proper pint of Guinness.

Not from a can. Not some sad airport pour. I’m talking draft. Two-part pour. Proper glass. Mothers milk, as they say.

So naturally, I made haste to Patrick Doud’s.

It’s right off Main Street, not far from where the boat drops you, which makes it dangerous in the best way. You get off the ferry, take a hard right, and hope there’s a seat waiting at the bar.

It’s a newer pub, but the building has history in its bones, and that helps. It doesn’t feel fake. It has that old island, old Irish pub energy working in its favor.

Food is good. Pint was the priority. And at night, this place can turn into a proper scene with live bands and karaoke.

Now, the restrooms.

This one is rough.

I reviewed the private unisex restroom upstairs. They also have two more restrooms down a flight of stairs, but personally, I’m not trying to make that journey after a few Guinnys.

Between the stairs, the tight upstairs option, and the constant tourist overflow downtown, I’d call this one pretty inaccessible. 🚫♿️

The restroom itself was relatively clean, but it was busy the whole time I was there. And on Mackinac, where crowds hit hard and fast, that becomes a real issue.

Depending on the day, you might honestly be better off walking down the block to the larger public restroom building.

Still, Patrick Doud’s is a great stop for a pint, some music, and that Mackinac Island madness.
