Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel are Michigan’s MVPs, in my opinion. The Esther Williams Pool Shooki earns 9/10: extremely clean, spacious and stocked with the things that matter.
Some places are hard to describe without sounding like you’re exaggerating.
Mackinac Island is one of them.
The Grand Hotel might be the best example.
No cars. Horses in the streets. Blue water stretching across the Straits. People still dressing for dinner like civilization hasn’t completely given up.
Then you walk down to the Esther Williams Pool and, on the right Michigan summer day, the place starts looking suspiciously like the Caribbean.
But this place is bigger than a restroom review.
In my opinion, Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel are two of the best things Michigan has to offer.
They’re our MVPs.
When somebody from outside Michigan asks what makes this state special, send them here.
I genuinely don’t know if I’ve ever been somewhere classier.
Yes, there’s a serious price tag attached.
But when the weather hits just right, the water is blue, the sun is out, and you’re sitting above the Straits with a drink in your hand…
You start convincing yourself it’s worth it.
If you live in Michigan, experiencing this place at least once feels like a birthright.
Dress up. Have the cocktail. Swim. Sit on the porch. Indulge a little.
Best for
- A Michigan trip that feels like a birthright
- Dressing up, having the cocktail and sitting on the porch
- The Esther Williams Pool on the right Michigan summer day
Less ideal for
- Keeping the price tag down
