Grand Rapids, Michigan
It’s Grand Rapids dressed up for dinner. Solid cocktails, a steak that did its job, and a clean, spacious, polished Shooki. 9/10.

Shooki’s Review of Margaux
By Shooki · Source published September 2026
It’s Grand Rapids dressed up for dinner. Solid cocktails, a steak that did its job, and a clean, spacious, polished Shooki. 9/10.
Grand Rapids has a funny way of punching above its weight.
Small enough that you can walk around downtown and hit a few places in one night. Big enough to have legitimate hotels, serious restaurants, cocktail bars, live music, and enough ambition to occasionally make Detroit look over its shoulder.
Margaux, inside the JW Marriott, is one of those places.
It’s polished. Maybe almost dangerously polished.
Clean lines. Beautiful lighting. Floor-to-ceiling windows. The Grand River moving quietly outside while everybody inside drinks expensive wine and pretends Monday morning isn’t coming.
I went straight for the bar.
Always do.
The room is designed to let the sunlight pour in, and when you look outside and catch the river moving past, you remember how much better cities feel when they actually build around the water.
Detroit, I’m looking at you.
Give us more restaurants facing the river.
The cocktails were solid. The steak did its job. The wine list has some depth. And if you catch the live jazz, even better.
It’s not trying to be gritty.
It’s Grand Rapids dressed up for dinner.
And sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
Best for
- The bar, river views and a polished room
- Solid cocktails, steak and a wine list with some depth
- Live jazz, if you catch it
