Just outside Saugatuck, tucked into that little stretch of Michigan where summer feels like it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, sits Respite Cappuccino Court.
This is the kind of coffee shop you hope to find when you’re out wandering near the lake. Small, charming, local, and just polished enough without losing that mom-and-pop feeling.
Nice decor. Fresh coffee. Baked goods sitting there tempting you like they know you’re on vacation and rules don’t count.
It has the vibe you want from a little lakeside-area coffee stop. Nothing too corporate. Nothing trying too hard. Just a good place to grab a cup, slow down, and remember you’re not supposed to be rushing everywhere.
Now, the restroom.
They have one private unisex restroom. It was clean and had some interesting decor, but it also shared space with cleaning supplies and the furnace, which is definitely… a choice.
Not the best setup for capacity, space, or accessibility. 🚫♿️
Clean? Yes. Functional? Sure. But one restroom, tight quarters, and the utility-room feel brings the score down.
Respite lands at a 6/10.
Still, great little coffee stop if you’re near Douglas or Saugatuck.

What Google Reviewers Say
4.4 on Google
Reviewers like the fresh-baked pastries and specialty lattes (toasted coconut gets called out repeatedly) plus the friendly, welcoming staff in this small downtown Douglas cafe. A handful of reviews flag high prices and occasional inconsistency, such as underripe avocado toast.
