The Monarch Club Review & Bathroom Guide

Detroit, Michigan

One of the best views in Detroit. Rooftop air, fire pits and good drinks. Beautiful skyline, but the restroom experience was shockingly bad during my visit.

Shooki’s Review of The Monarch Club

By Shooki · Source published June 2026

One of the best views in Detroit. Rooftop air, fire pits and good drinks. Beautiful skyline, but the restroom experience was shockingly bad during my visit.

The Monarch Club has one of the best views in Detroit. No debate there.

Located downtown inside the Element Detroit you take the elevator up and suddenly you’re on a rooftop looking out over the city like you’ve got life figured out for a minute.

Grab a cocktail, walk from one side of the building to the other, and you get these beautiful little glimpses of the Detroit skyline. Fire pits, rooftop air, good drinks, and that “okay, this city is pretty damn cool” kind of feeling.

The bar itself feels fairly accessible too. Walk into the lobby, take the elevator up, and you’re there. Just know that in the summer, this place can get packed. Peak rooftop season is no joke, so unless you have a reservation, you might be waiting a while.

Best for

  • A cocktail with beautiful Detroit skyline views
  • Rooftop air and fire pits
  • Taking in downtown from above

Less ideal for

  • Relying on a clean, stocked men’s restroom based on my visit
  • Walking straight in during busy summer rooftop season

The Shooki Bathroom Review

First-party restroom record · Source published June 2026

Restroom verdict

The men’s restroom was not clean during my visit. No hand soap, no paper towels, and a cocktail glass flipped upside down on the urinal. 3/10.

Restroom inventory
1 reviewed area — 1 shared men’s restroom and 1 women’s restroom; total venue room count unknown
Review coverage
My caption reports one men’s and one women’s restroom; the reel shows separate M and W doors, but only the men’s interior was reviewed. One toilet stall, one urinal, one basin, a grab rail and an upside-down cocktail glass on the urinal fitting are documented. My no hand soap and no paper towels observations describe that visit. A pump container is visible but its contents cannot be established visually. Further building inventory, women’s interior and lock operation were not established. Gallery images are unedited full-frame stills from my June 4, 2026 reel; no matching original still photographs were available.

Accessibility status
Unknown · I described reaching the rooftop by lobby and elevator during my visit; a grab rail is visible in the reviewed toilet stall. Complete routes, measurements and accessibility compliance were not verified.
Why this score
Great skyline. Bad restroom. The men’s restroom I reviewed was not clean and had no hand soap or paper towels during my visit. An upside-down cocktail glass on the urinal added to the problem. 3/10.
Layout
From what I saw, there were two restrooms, male and female. I reviewed the men’s, which I described as one stall and one urinal. The women’s interior was not reviewed.
Capacity
My caption reports one stall and one urinal in the men’s restroom. It does not establish the women’s fixtures, a full building inventory or measured wait times.

Now, the restroom.

This is where things fell apart.

From what I saw, they had two restrooms — male and female. The men’s restroom had one stall and one urinal.

And honestly, for a place that feels so clean, polished, and put together everywhere else, the restroom experience was shockingly bad.

The men’s restroom was not clean. No hand soap. No paper towels.

And to top it off, there was a cocktail glass flipped upside down on top of the urinal.

I’m not trying to be dramatic, but that’s a hard one to ignore. Especially at a rooftop cocktail bar that otherwise presents itself as elevated, proper, and dialed in.

Beautiful views. Solid place for a drink. But for Shooki purposes, this one was rough.
