The Evening Bar Review & Bathroom Guide
Detroit, Michigan
Solid Old Fashioned. Good room. Good people. Cozy, tight quarters where you might make a new friend, with restrooms close enough to avoid a scavenger hunt.

Solid Old Fashioned. Good room. Good people. Cozy, tight quarters where you might make a new friend, with restrooms close enough to avoid a scavenger hunt.
I was looking for a downtown spot I hadn’t reviewed yet. Something with a solid cocktail menu, a little atmosphere, and ideally a restroom situation that didn’t make me regret the entire mission.
A few people recommended The Evening Bar, so I gave it a shot — and I’ve got to say, I was impressed.
It’s tucked inside the Shinola Hotel, which already gives it a certain kind of Detroit polish. If you’re staying downtown, it’s an easy walk to a lot of the places you’d want to hit. And if you’re trying to make an entrance, you can come through Parker’s Alley and get that scenic little “welcome to Detroit” moment for the gram.
Inside, it’s cozy. Tight quarters. The bar is right there when you walk in, usually packed, and you’re probably going to end up sitting close enough to someone to either start a conversation or pretend very hard not to.
Personally, I like that.
It’s the kind of place where you might meet someone visiting Detroit for the first time, or a local who stops in often enough to know the bartender by name.
I had an Old Fashioned. Solid pour. Good room. Good people. One of those spots where you can sit for a minute, slow down, and actually take in the night.
Best for
- An Old Fashioned in a cozy downtown cocktail room
- Meeting someone visiting Detroit or a local at the bar
- Private restrooms close to the bar on the same level
Less ideal for
- Wanting plenty of personal space at the bar

Multiple views of that same room are not counted as separate rooms. The second room’s interior, full venue inventory and door lock operation were not established visually. Now, the restrooms.
This is where The Evening Bar really surprised me.
The restrooms are close to the bar, on the same level, and tucked away enough to feel private. Huge win.
They offer two unisex private restrooms. One is more spacious and geared toward accessibility ✅♿️, while the other is smaller and more of a quick in-and-out setup.
Both were very clean, had nice-smelling soap, and offered paper towels.
That’s a strong restroom performance.
