Detroit, Michigan
Great room. Good people. Cool bartenders. Just give the Shooki—and the Guinness—a little more love. 6/10.

Ray’s looks good.
Really good.
Dim lights. Wood. Neon. That carefully constructed neighborhood-bar feeling where everything looks like it’s been there for forty years, even when you know somebody spent serious money making it look that way.
And honestly?
It works.
Cozy. Lively. Right downtown. The kind of place you duck into for one drink and accidentally stay for three.
Here’s where I’m conflicted.
I like the room. Bartenders were cool. The location works.
But Detroit already has a lot of great neighborhood bars.
What feels effortlessly hip in New York has a lot more competition here.
No glass of wine. No Champagne for me. Nothing on the menu that had me planning my return.
Except one thing.
Guinness.
Proper glassware. Guinness on draft.
Now you’ve got my attention.
I gave it two chances.
And twice I waited for that beautiful, creamy pint to settle…
Airball.
My friends, do yourselves a favor.

Those guys can show you what the black stuff is supposed to look like.
Still, mistakes happen. New bars tighten things up. And Ray’s has enough going for it that I’d come back and see where it lands.
Great room. Good people. Cool bartenders.
Just give the Shooki—and the Guinness—a little more love.
Best for
- A cozy, lively room right downtown
- Ducking in for one drink and accidentally staying for three
Less ideal for
- A great Guinness pour from the two chances I gave it
- Easy restroom access through the packed bar I encountered
- Restroom amenities beyond the bare minimum
The Shooki Bathroom Review
First-party restroom record · Source published September 2026
Restroom verdict
Two unisex restrooms. Clean enough and spacious once you’re inside, but bare-minimum amenities, hand dryers and lines throughout the night. 6/10.
- Restroom inventory
- 2 total — 2 gender-neutral rooms
- Review coverage
- My caption reports two unisex restrooms, and both ALL GENDER RESTROOM doors appear in the reel. One interior was reviewed; the other interior was not established in the footage. Privacy and locking arrangements and complete fixture counts are unknown.
- Room reviewed
- One of the two unisex restroom interiors
- Accessibility status
- Unknown · From my visit, navigating the packed bar and narrow crowd did not feel easy. Another route may exist; I did not confirm it.
- Why this score
- 6/10. For a bar that put this much thought into the main room, the restroom feels strangely unfinished.
- Layout
- Two unisex restrooms, spacious once you’re inside.
- Capacity
- Two unisex restrooms. I encountered lines throughout the night.

Huge mirror. Dark walls. Not much else.
For a bar that put this much thought into the main room, the restroom feels strangely unfinished.
And from my visit, accessibility didn’t feel particularly easy either. Maybe there’s another route in, but navigating a packed bar and narrow crowd certainly wouldn’t make it simple.
The water fountains outside the restrooms?
Nice touch.
6/10 Shooki.
