Pocket Change Review & Bathroom Guide
Detroit, Michigan
Great name. Great location. Beautiful room. The cocktail was damn good, but I caught a dead weeknight and a mixed-up order. Only one restroom and not wheelchair accessible. 5/10.

Pocket Change.
Great name. Great location. Beautiful room.
Pocket Change sits in Eastern Market, an area I love during the day but one that can become strangely quiet when the market shuts down and everybody disappears.
I went on a weeknight.
And honestly?
Dead.
Which surprised me because nearly everyone who recommended this place described something completely different.
Music. DJs. Packed rooftop. Great crowd. Great bartenders. One of those rooms where you start with one drink and suddenly it’s 1 a.m.
I didn’t get that version.
My order even got mixed up, which was slightly confusing considering there weren’t many people there.
But then the cocktail arrived.
And it was damn good.
Thoughtful. Balanced. Properly made.
The kind of drink that makes you forgive a few sins.
The rooftop is cool. The room photographs beautifully. And judging by everyone else’s experiences, there’s clearly another version of Pocket Change I haven’t met yet.
So I’m conflicted.
Maybe I caught it on the wrong night.
Maybe I need to come back Saturday when the music is going, the rooftop is packed, and the room has some blood flowing through it.
But I always hate saying that about Detroit.
A proper city shouldn’t require Saturday night to feel alive.
Thursday deserves a little trouble too.
I’ll give you another shot, Pocket Change.
The cocktail earned that much.
Best for
- A thoughtful, balanced, properly made cocktail
- A beautiful room and a cool rooftop
Less ideal for
- Restroom capacity when the bar gets packed
- Wheelchair access to the restroom
- The lively weeknight I was hoping for
The Shooki Bathroom Review
First-party restroom record · Source published September 2026
Restroom verdict
Only one restroom for the entire establishment, and not wheelchair accessible. Clean and definitely photo-worthy, but the Shooki math is unforgiving. 5/10.
- Restroom inventory
- 1 total — 1 restroom area (designation unknown)
- Review coverage
- My caption reports only one restroom for the entire establishment. One toilet-and-basin interior was reviewed and photographed; its gender designation and locking/privacy arrangement were not confirmed. The venue-wide count comes from my first-hand caption, not a separate photographic inventory.
- Room reviewed
- The restroom from my visit; door designation unconfirmed
- Accessibility status
- Unknown · My caption describes the restroom as not wheelchair accessible during this visit. Steps and stairs appear in the reel; alternate access routes were not verified.
- Why this score
- 5/10. One restroom for a bar that can apparently get packed is a capacity problem before the night even starts.
- Layout
- One restroom for the entire establishment; not wheelchair accessible.
- Capacity
- Only one restroom for the entire establishment.

I understand the accessibility problem. This is an old Detroit building, and old buildings come with old problems.
But a lot of my followers specifically use Shooki to know where they can—and cannot—comfortably use a restroom.
So I have to call it.
And one restroom for a bar that can apparently get packed?
That’s a capacity problem before the night even starts.
5/10.
