Shooki’s Review of Paris Bar

Weird little rooms like this matter. Local bands, punk shows, pool and cheap drinks — but the Shooki needs some love. 2/10.
Welcome to what might be the holy land of Detroit hipsters.
And I mean that with affection.
Paris Bar feels like one of those places where somebody is playing in a band you’ve never heard of, somebody else is shooting pool, a DJ is setting up in the corner, and at least three people look like they know where to buy records you’ll never find online.
I dig it.
Local bands. Punk shows. Comedy. DJs. Pinball. Cheap drinks. A backyard to disappear into when you need some air.
Nothing feels overly polished.
And that’s kind of the point.
As for Paris Bar itself?
It’s a bit of a haul for me when Detroit already has plenty of strange little rooms closer to downtown where you can drink something cheap and listen to somebody make noise with a guitar.
But I can see this becoming something bigger.
These places matter.
As downtown gets shinier, more expensive, and increasingly corporate, Detroit still needs weird little rooms where artists can play, communities can gather, and people who don’t necessarily fit into the polished version of the city can feel at home.
Sometimes the rough edges are exactly what makes a place worth protecting.
So I’m cheering for you, @parisbardetroit.
Just show the Shooki a little love.
Best for
- Local bands, punk shows and DJs
- Pool, pinball and cheap drinks
- A room that doesn’t feel overly polished
Less ideal for
- A restroom that gets cleanliness and accessibility right
- A quick stop for me closer to downtown

Restroom verdict
This one hurt. Cleanliness needed work, accessibility didn’t cut it from my visit, and the bare-minimum amenities left it at 2/10.
- Restroom inventory
- 1 reviewed area — 1 restroom area (designation unknown); total venue room count unknown
- Review coverage
- My observations cover the restroom I used; this is not a count of every restroom at the venue.
- Room reviewed
- Restroom from my visit
- Why this score
- Cleanliness and accessibility matter no matter how cool the band is. Neither cut it from my visit, and the bare-minimum amenities weren’t meeting the basics. 2/10.
- Layout
- Restroom accessibility didn’t cut it from my visit.
- Capacity
- Capacity wasn’t described in this review.
This one hurt: cleanliness needed work, and restroom accessibility didn’t cut it from my visit. Bare-minimum amenities and a Shooki just not meeting the basics.
2/10.
I know places like this aren’t trying to compete with a hotel lobby restroom. But Shooki is Shooki. Cleanliness and accessibility matter no matter how cool the band is.
