Ottava Via

First off, I still love hearing people try to pronounce this place. Everybody’s got their own version, and somehow they all sound half right. Lol.

But Ottava Via?

This is my place.

Not because it’s close to my home, but because it feels like home.

There are restaurants you like, restaurants you respect, and then there are restaurants that somehow become part of your routine, your memories, your neighborhood, your life. Ottava Via is that kind of place.

It’s the place you come back to when you want something familiar. Something steady. Something that doesn’t need to scream for your attention because it already knows what it is.

The walls, the music, the lighting, the sauce, the service — all of it feels considered. Not overdone. Not pretending. Just dialed in.

During the holidays, this is the kind of place where you run into family, friends, neighbors, and somebody you haven’t seen since high school. It feels like Corktown’s dinner table.

From a restaurant, vibe, and service standpoint, this is my favorite restaurant in Detroit. I said what I said. Curious where everyone else lands on that.

Now, the restrooms — my sacred duty.

There’s a dining room to the left of the bar with two private unisex restrooms in the back. These feel newer, cleaner, and honestly bumped up my previous rating of the place.

They’re stylish, they smell great, and they’re relatively accessible. The restrooms near the back entrance may be the better accessibility option with the ramp down, but overall, Ottava does a good job covering capacity, which matters.

There are also two more restrooms near the back entrance — male and female. The men’s restroom can get busy, and because of that, it’s not always as clean as the others.

My move? Use the private ones in the back-left dining room. That’s the better Shooki experience.

Ottava Via has earned my respect over the years. And judging by how many people keep coming back, I’m definitely not alone.
