The Shooki Review

The Majestic Theatre has been holding down Woodward since 1915, and these days it anchors a whole complex — the Garden Bowl (said to be the oldest active bowling alley in America) next door, the Magic Stick upstairs, pizza and a cafe in between. The theater itself is a mid-size room that's hosted everyone from punk legends to touring indie acts, and by all accounts it's one of the best spots in Midtown to catch a show: solid sound, easy sightlines, zero pretension.

Now, the restrooms. This is where a century-old building shows its age. Reviewers consistently flag the women's room as the weak link — only a couple of stalls, which means real lines once the floor fills up, and at least one review calls it dated and overdue for a renovation. On the upside, there's an attendant on duty handing out paper towels, and a recent review says things were kept clean. But when a show packs out, expect the restroom situation to feel like a bottleneck — one reviewer of an oversold night griped that guests could barely get to the bathroom at all. Serviceable on a slow night, tested hard on a big one.

Go for the show, budget time for the line. Majestic Theatre lands at a 5/10 on Shooki.
