A good-looking little coffee shop on Gratiot with just-okay coffee. The restrooms are where it earns its points.
La Ventana is a good-looking little coffee shop on Gratiot, the kind of place that feels like it should be an easy win. Blue-and-white tile out front. Pale wood, big windows, and a long bench under them. Bright enough. Welcoming enough. A room that tells you to sit down, sip something, maybe get a little work done, maybe pretend you're not avoiding your actual responsibilities.
The coffee was just okay. Not bad. Not offensive. Just not the cup that makes you stare into the distance and rethink your Detroit coffee rankings. You can find better around the city.
I wouldn't post up here to work, either. It's fine for a quick stop, a casual hang, or something to go. If you need to lock in for hours, it wouldn't be my first pick.

Two private unisex restrooms, really clean and well stocked, and they smelled nice. This is where La Ventana earns its points.
Hand soap, hand sanitizer, a diffuser working in the background, and a small cart of extras. Somebody is paying attention. They felt relatively accessible, too.
The only real knock is privacy. The restrooms sit close to where people order and hang out, so they don't feel tucked away the way you'd hope. Not a dealbreaker. Just know before you go.

Reviewers lead with the room — beautiful space is its own review topic, named eleven times — and with the pastries (12), the vanilla bean latte (9), the chai latte (7), oat milk options, latte art and cold brew, each named in its own right. Several call it a good study spot and make use of the outdoor seating. The crowd and the staff are described as warm, and the baked goods come up as often as the coffee.
