Gilly’s Clubhouse Review & Bathroom Guide

Detroit, Michigan

A proper sports bar. Huge screens, plenty of seating, multiple levels and a rooftop built for game day. Strong Shooki, too: 8/10, with points docked for that cheap pink soap.

Shooki’s Review of Gilly’s Clubhouse

A proper sports bar. Huge screens, plenty of seating, multiple levels and a rooftop built for game day. Strong Shooki, too: 8/10, with points docked for that cheap pink soap.

Detroit needed a place like this.

A proper sports bar.

Not a sad little room with three TVs hanging over a fryer.

I’m talking huge screens. Plenty of seating. Multiple levels. A rooftop. Enough space for an entire city to collectively lose its mind over a Lions game.

Gilly’s feels like somebody took a high-end Chicago sports bar, dropped it on Woodward, and told Detroit fans:

“Go ahead. Feel everything.”

Joy. Rage. Hope. Despair.

Usually within the same quarter.

The space is sharp too. Big, polished, energetic, and clearly built for game day.

Now, naturally, I saw Guinness on draft.

So of course I ordered one.

Proper glass?

Not quite.

Creamy head?

Not quite.

The cream test resulted in more spill than silk.

Room for improvement, lads.

The menu has a solid drink list, Prosecco included, but selfishly I was hoping for a proper Champagne option too.

Give me football and bubbles.

I contain multitudes.

Still, this looks like one hell of a spot to watch a Lions game.

Big screens. Big crowd. Woodward Avenue right outside. Rooftop views when the weather cooperates.

You could do a lot worse.

Thanks for the hospitality, @gillysdetroit

Tighten up the Guinness.

Upgrade the soap.

And keep the TVs enormous.

Cheers. 🍻🏈

Best for

  • Watching a Lions game with an entire city
  • Big screens, big energy and rooftop views
  • Football and bubbles

Less ideal for

  • My ideal Guinness pour
  • Cheap pink soap in a polished restroom

Clean, plenty of room and solid capacity, with a baby changing station and elevator access from my visit.

And yes, I’m docking points for the soap.

When the restroom looks this polished, I expect something better than the same pink stuff you find in a gas station dispenser off I-75.

Details matter.

Still, this is a strong restroom.

8/10 Shooki.
