Experience ZuZu Review & Bathroom Guide
Detroit, Michigan
Good sushi. Good steak. Good booze. Beautiful room. But great hospitality is what I’ll remember. A spotless, spacious Shooki lands at 7/10; the one stall is what hurts.

Some restaurants sell you dinner.
Others are trying to sell you the entire night.
ZuZu is definitely the latter.
Lights low. Music up. Sushi moving across the room. Steaks hitting the table. Beautiful people drinking expensive things under enough mood lighting to make everybody look slightly more interesting than they probably are.
And you know what?
I had a damn good time.
The bar might actually be my favorite seat in the house.
There’s enough space to enjoy your own drink without feeling isolated, but close enough that eventually you’re going to get pulled into somebody else’s conversation.
That’s what a proper bar should do.
The booze selection is strong too.
And seeing splits of Champagne available?
Nice touch.
You know how to get my attention.
The food held up as well.
The sushi was excellent, and I tried the New York strip, which was genuinely really damn good.
But the thing that pushed the experience over the top wasn’t the steak, the sushi, or the room.
It was the service.
Tomasita absolutely made my night.
Knowledgeable. Helpful. Funny. Easy to talk to.
She knew the menu, gave proper recommendations, and actually made sitting at the bar feel like an experience instead of a transaction.
Restaurants spend fortunes designing rooms like this.
Lighting. Furniture. Music. Glassware. Marble. Neon.
But ultimately, it’s the person standing in front of you who decides whether you actually want to come back.
People matter.
Overall?
Good sushi. Good steak. Good booze. Beautiful room.
But great hospitality is what I’ll remember.
Best for
- A proper night out at the bar
- Sushi, steak and splits of Champagne
- Great hospitality and a conversation over a drink
Less ideal for
- Restroom stall capacity when the place gets busy
The Shooki Bathroom Review
First-party restroom record · Source published September 2026
Restroom verdict
Extremely clean, private and tucked away, with great mirrors and decor. Spacious, but only one stall in the restroom I reviewed. 7/10 Shooki.
- Restroom inventory
- 1 reviewed area — 1 shared men’s restroom and 1 women’s restroom; total venue room count unknown
- Review coverage
- I reviewed the men’s restroom, which has one toilet stall and a urinal. A women’s restroom door is also shown, but its interior was not reviewed. The total venue-wide room and stall counts are unknown.
- Room reviewed
- Men’s restroom from my visit
- Why this score
- 7/10. Cleanliness is one of the biggest categories in my book, and this one was spotless. One stall can become a traffic jam when the place gets busy.
- Layout
- Private and tucked away, with great mirrors and decor; spacious from my visit.
- Capacity
- Only one stall in the reviewed restroom. This is not a count of every restroom at ZuZu.

And that last one is what hurts.
For a place that can get this busy, one stall can become a traffic jam pretty damn quickly.
But cleanliness is one of the biggest categories in my book, and this one was spotless.
7/10 Shooki.
