The Shooki Review

Atwater has been part of Detroit's beer story since 1997, pouring German-style lagers out of a 1919 factory warehouse in Rivertown, a few blocks off the river. This is the mothership for Dirty Blonde and Vanilla Java Porter, and the 2017 rooftop biergarten — communal tables, long bar rail, Detroit River views — is the move all summer. Bonus points: an actual parking lot, downtown, for free. The knocks? It gets loud when the big open room fills up, and the pub food runs hit-or-miss. But the beer and the building carry it, and the review sites mostly agree.

Now, the restrooms. The word is genuinely split. Plenty of reviewers report clean, well-kept facilities — one even called them spotless — while at least one visitor caught them in rough shape and knocked a star off the whole experience for it. That's the profile of a restroom that lives and dies by whether the cleaning crew has been through yet — some visits you catch it fresh, some you don't. Serviceable, not special — don't expect the extras, and maybe don't wait until the biergarten empties out to make your move.

Solid beer, solid building, restrooms that mostly keep up. Atwater Brewery lands at a 7/10 on Shooki.
