Anthology is pure Detroit.
Tucked away in Eastern Market, getting there can produce that beautiful Detroit moment where you look around and ask yourself:
“Where the f*ck am I?”
“Are we sure this is the right place?”
Keep going.
Because then you walk through the door and smell the coffee.
And suddenly everything makes sense.
Anthology takes coffee seriously. Not “here’s your burnt cup of caffeine, have a nice day” seriously. These people obsess over the beans, the roasting, and the final cup.
You taste it.
For me, it’s basically a battle between Anthology and Germack down the street for my Eastern Market coffee allegiance. Both excellent. Both very different.
But Anthology has one problem.
Wi-Fi.
Or, more specifically…
There isn’t any.
I asked the barista for the password and was told they don’t have Wi-Fi.
I thought they were joking.
A coffee shop. In 2026. No Wi-Fi.
Air ball.
For my WFH people imagining themselves posting up with a laptop, drinking excellent coffee, and pretending that spreadsheet is getting finished — plan accordingly.
Which is unfortunate, because the space itself is beautiful. Industrial Detroit bones, great decor, serious coffee, and a room you actually want to spend time in.
