Shooki’s Review of Café Santé

Good fish, good wine, a proper pint, some music, and a seat overlooking a Michigan lake before summer disappears again. Café Santé lands at a 7/10.

Summer is slowly slipping away.

You can feel it already. The nights come a little sooner. The air has that first hint of what’s coming. And as someone who would happily live in July forever, I’m not taking it particularly well.

So the mission continues:

Squeeze every last drop out of a Michigan summer while we still can.

And Café Santé is exactly the kind of place you want to find along the way.

Sitting on the water in Boyne City, this is a European-style bistro where the garage doors open, the lake comes into view, the bar fills up, and suddenly there’s nowhere else you particularly need to be.

Sometimes there’s live music. Usually some good craic around the bar. And the menu understands where it lives.

French-inspired food. Oysters. Steak frites. Duck French onion soup. And, most importantly when you’re this close to the Great Lakes, some damn good whitefish.

The drinks cover my bases too.

Good wine list. Cocktails.

And Guinness on draft.

Proper Guinness in northern Michigan?

Huge win.

This is what Michigan does better than almost anywhere when we get it right: good food, cold drinks, open air, and a massive body of freshwater sitting outside reminding you to slow the hell down.

Best for

  • Whitefish, oysters, steak frites and duck French onion soup
  • A proper Guinness and a good wine list
  • Open air and a seat overlooking a Michigan lake

Less ideal for

  • Relying on paper towels during my visit

The Shooki Bathroom Review

First-party restroom record · Source published August 2026

Restroom verdict

Relatively clean and handles a busy restaurant reasonably well during my visit. I loved the foot-operated door opener. 7/10.

Restroom inventory
1 reviewed area — 1 shared restroom area (designation unknown); total venue room count unknown
Review coverage
Photos document one toilet stall, one urinal, one basin, soap, a hand dryer and a foot-operated door opener. The changing station is inside the toilet stall. My caption reports no paper towels, and the photographed basin shows a dryer without a towel dispenser. No complete venue inventory, other designations or verified locking arrangements were recorded.
Room reviewed
One shared restroom interior from my Café Santé visit; designation unrecorded
Accessibility status
Unknown · Accessible describes my visit. Grab bars and the changing station are visible, but the full route, measurements and accessibility compliance were not verified.
Why this score
A relatively clean restroom, a baby changing station and enough capacity for a busy restaurant during my visit. The foot-operated door opener was a smart touch, but I missed the paper towels.
Layout
My review covers the restroom I visited. Complete venue restroom designations and room counts were not recorded.
Capacity
The restroom handled a busy restaurant reasonably well during my visit. Exact room and fixture totals were not recorded.

Now, the restrooms.

✨ Relatively clean ♿️ Accessible 🚼 Baby changing station 🧑‍🧑‍🧒 Handles a busy restaurant reasonably well 🦶 Foot-operated door opener — underrated move 🚫 No paper towels

That last one hurts.

My followers already know I’m not a hand-dryer guy. Give me a proper paper towel and let me move on with my life.

But I loved the foot pedal at the door. No grabbing the same handle everyone else just touched after washing your hands. Simple idea. Smart idea.

Café Santé lands at a 7/10.
