The Shooki Review

Visited July 2026

Out in the burbs again.

Now, I’m a big fan of Cannelle back in Detroit. The Capital Park location feels like a little slice of New York somehow landed downtown. More energy. More character. More of that neighborhood café feeling where you want to grab a coffee and lose an hour.

This one?

I wanted to love it, but I walked away a little disappointed.

Maybe it’s the plaza. Maybe it’s being surrounded by chain stores. Maybe it’s just me. But instead of that charming French pâtisserie feeling, I kept getting Panera Bread vibes.

Not exactly what I came looking for.

The pastries are still beautiful. The coffee is still good. And thankfully, they’re offering much of the same menu that made me fall in love with the Detroit location in the first place.

But the room just didn’t invite me to stay.

If you’re looking to work remotely, I’d probably keep driving. This one never really settles into that comfortable coffee shop rhythm.

Now, the restroom.

Only one.

And my followers already know what that means.

One restroom is always going to limit the score, especially in a place that can get busy.

It was clean, and I liked the decor, but it wasn’t especially spacious or accessible. 🚫♿️

Cannelle Birmingham lands at a 6/10.

Still worth stopping for a pastry.

But if I’m choosing between the two, you’ll find me back at Capital Park every time.
